Piggin' oil pressure relief valve!

Once again the oil pressure relief valve on my x-flow jammed open this morning...

Stood around in the local railway station car park for 20 minutes until my wife turned up with the correct sockets - 5 minutes later I was working OK again, having just freed the valve.

Does anyone have a reliable fix for this problem - or is it something that'll go away one I've done an oil and filter change that's planned for the next month or so?

David

Possible that a small piece of debris is causing the problem ? Did you completly strip and clean/rebuild after your last problem ? Faulty release valve? Can't remember hearing of sticking oil pressure relief valve on a x flow before

Complete strip, professional clean-out, followed by a air-line blow-out before re-assembly. I did try hard to get it really clean!

david when you rebuilt did you use any gasket adhesives eg hylomar, hermatite
as they are infamous for dropping litte bits into the sump for gunging up later on.

also it the oil pump a ford item or a patter as several e4ngine builders wont use anything apart from the ford part as the qc on the pattern isn't always 100% for the oil pumps.

Tim,

I only used the official gaskets - no goo of any sort.

The oil pump's a pattern one from Burtons - I doubt if a real Ford one can be bought these days (especially a high-pressure one).

cheers,
David

Wouldn't be the first time that a new oil pump has had debris in it , I normally strip and clean new pumps to be on tha safe side and then fill and prime them . May be a good idea to check oil pressure relief valves as well . Hope you have it sorted .
