Have a search on here mate. Im using a type 9 from a deisel. I think the 2.3 deisel boxes have different bell housing. Also different gear ratio's IIRC

I think you'll find that the input shaft spigot is also longer on the diesel box.

Can't remember about the input shafts etc (pretty sure the 2.3 diesel has the same long input shaft and reinroced layshaft bearings etc as the V6 boxes)

BUT!

if you can get a 2.3 diesel box cheap, have it! They have very nice reinforced selector forks in them (the std type 9 ones are prone to bending when animalled) which I have used in my "normal" type 9.

The main problem is the bellhousing. Where I live type 9 are really really rare and the only one I can get is from a diesel, but if the bell housing does not match the zetec I'm afraid It's not an option.

Also if the input shaft is like the V6 (longer) i need to use an spacer

2.3d definately has a different bellhousing, the top bolt is central, rather than the usual two at either side on a 'normal' box. Guess how i found out?

Danozeman, What starter did you use?
I have one from a 2l and it seems to have a different bolt pattern to the bell housing from the 1.8TD sierra type 9.
