i think there's s general confusion here....
or maybe not...
bike carbs are NOT the same as Throttle bodies.
although i've just stated the obvious:
if i want to put throttle bodies on my pinto, the most common of which are from the R1, ZX9R, GSX, CBR i have to put injectors aside on the
manifold and get megasquirt obviously not something i want to do on the pinto.
seeing as i prefer a carbureted engine, the only option i see is the carbs from the R6 which did come in carburetor version...
am i right so far?
so, are there any other bike carbs out there? apart from the kawasaki ZZR1100?
i also read 600cc carbs are good up to 200bhp.... but then i also read another comment which makes sense that says
bikecc * maximum rpm = carb airflow
carb airflow/car engine cc = Max RPM in car at which carb limit occurs...
so this limit should be above the maximum operating rpm (i.e: 6000 rpm in a pinto).
for the R6 carb, the maximum rpm for the car is 4350, so a 600cc carb would not be that good?
i also read that if bike carbs do 15000 rpm they should do 6000, but the engine is bigger!
Basically, would the carbs from an R6 be better than the standard Weber DFTH carb for a mildly tuned pinto (i.e. fast road cam, megajolt)?

I can't answer your questions re the R6 Carbs, but can tell you that you can also get Carbs from 919 and 893 Honda Fireblades, not just the ZZR
ones - these may or may not be more suitable than the 600 sized Carbs, but just thought I would mention it as you could widen your search?

My blackbird has carbs, but maybe a bit big for a pinto.
Oh, as for the throttle bodies, some have the injector in them, some require a different manifold to house them.

*Most* bikes made the switchover from carbs to injection in the 1998-2001 timeframe.
Hence most bikes before this were carbed - including R1, ZX9R, Fireblade, Blackbird etc.
Trick is knowing when the switchover happened between fuelling system happened for that model...

thanks steve, i just realized that, looking at model history...
just checked the venturi size in the standard pinto carb is 26mm

My ST1100 has carbs (at the moment!!!)
Infact all ST1100s had carbs, they switched over when the ST1200 was built....

Sounds as though you'll be OK wrt sizing - just look at the engine power really, any power level will require a certain air flow to achieve
it.
I think the bike would be 110 to 120 horse (???) so about right for a pinto.
Compared with webers, the bike carbs are a CV design (like SUs) so should work much better on part throttle at the expense of a slight question mark
re: longevity.

Many slightly older bikes used carbs as the CV design was more advanced than those used on cars so could meet emmisions requirements for longer.
I would go for 38mm carbs for a 2.0 pinto. The benefit of the CV design is that you can use bigger carbs and still keep good airspeed to atomise the
fuel. This means you need to compromise less top end to give good low throttle/rpm running.

1998 - 2001 R1 had carbs. 2002 onward EFI.
