Type 9 clutch release arm removal

OK, How the chuff does the clutch release arm come off the type 9 box>

According to the book of lies its a couple of push springs behind the arm and the MT75 box has a circlip.

Well I can't find any springs and I'm sure I can feel a couple of holes for a circlip. Anyone had experience of this before? I assume its a spreading open circlip not a closing up one?

You wont be able to remove it unless you take off the gearbox and the release bearing first. Then pull it towards the cable end opening in the bellhousing and it should come off. The springs are actually two fingers underneath the clutch release arm (hope this makes sense) with humps on them that locate on the fulcrum peg.

If it looks wrong it probably is wrong.

Thanks.

What I'm trying to do it get the bell housing off. I can't get the bearing on the shaft off. There are two bolts that are behind the release arm to separate the bell housing from the gear box and I can't get to the buggers.

I've felt around the back of the release arm for the humps and fingers (as per the picture in the haynes book) but can't feel the right shape there. I can feel though the shape of a circlip (i.e. the two small holes on the fingers).

Most odd it is.

OK. Started again. The clips are behind the back ring and its just a little tang. I guess I was looking for the wrong thing. A quick press behind the lower one and the upper one and it popped off like a greased pig (which is what is was really).

Bell housing now off and all is peachy.

I gave up trying to undo the clips behind the release arm when I had to get mine off, instead I tapped the release arm pivot pin out of the bellhousing with a small punch.

what a coincidence, i'm also working on the gearbox and had this same issue yeasterday.

i wouldnt reccommend hammering the pivot pin out as its just not meant to be fiddled with.

i simply used a screwdriver and putting it through the opening on the bell housing where the clutch cable goes i hammered the lock tabs out.

bear in mind you cant reuse them and it is easier to get a new bearing as it comes with these lock tabs.

btw: the haynes book doesnt cover it in detail at all, but what you're really supposed to do is get a small pointy thing (book says an allen key) to push the lock tabs out from the middle top and bottom part of the back of the bearing.
its a very cumbersome job...
