Do I need an engine/gearbox blanking plate

I just put the engine and gearbox in my Indy and realised that I don’t have a blanking plate between the engine and bell housing. So there are a couple of small gaps at the top of the bell housing where you can see the back of the flywheel.

Do I need this blanking plate ? Has anyone else left it out ?

If you leave it of as I did on my Falcon the flywheel goes kind of rusty, best to fit one. You can use alloy sheet and bolt it to the bottom holes in the bellhousing. I would also use some silicone in between to stop any rattles.

cheers for the replies.

Might make some small blanks as suggested as the wholes are only slim.

Thanks again.
