Engine swap with auto trans.?
Just wondering, would it be possible to swap an engine in a car with automatic transmission? Assuming you could physically mate the new engine to the
transmission, would there be any problems if you swap the engine for one with more, or less power than the original? Or more or less torque, or a
different torque curve?
I always thought that auto transmissions were real fussy about the engines they were mated to? But browsing through the Summit Racing catalog, I see
many transmissions for the Chevy 350 engine, without specifying the exact year or type... as far as I know, there's a huge range of power and
torque between the different 350 engines, so I guess auto transmissions are not that picky after all?

Not so picky, but manufactures do change things such as torque convertor, number of clutch plates etc to match. So although it may be the same box,
the internals may differ.
But that aside, taking a range rover for instance, you can take a 3.9 auto box and mate to a 2.5 tdi engine. It will work okay but the kick down must
be disabled or modified as it will over rev the engine.

When BW built the type 35 auto box for the europe market it was designed for 2 litres maxium engine size but was fitted to everything from 1100 Mk1
