Got one from halfrauds for ~£70. One of the Gunson Gastester ones. No ide how it will tally with the emissions at sva, but its let me set it up better than it was, thats for sure.

ebay is your friend!

there are about 5 MOT style machines on there at the moment, (some of which are out of calibration).

Ebay have some cheap ones as a lot of MOT stations are going over to 1 man testing which involves uprating there equipment.
for the use you would give it I would go to your local MOT station and get them to check it?

They're quite heavy though....
Even if they're out of calibration they still work well in terms of "when I turn this needle this way does the HC go up or down and what happens to the CO?" way....

To do a rough and ready calibration you can get the MOT man to give you your tintop emissions printout @ next MOT then recheck the vehicle with your Ebay emissions tester to see if its close...

Cheers for the advice chaps!

As it happens my MD is a bit of a car nut and it turns out he bought one a few years ago and has never actually used it. He's offered to lend it to me for as long as I need it - result!

He's also got a colourtune and timing light sat around waiting to be used too

the gunsons gastester i have seen only does co.

If you get a proper crypton ex mot garage unit it does hc as well

I have thought about getting one for a while but its of limited use as its only any good for idle checks.

Wideband lambdais the way to go.
