red top v zetec

Current pinto runner,

looking to start collecting parts,

Which is the better option?
Zetec or Redtop?

I know what is required for fitting a zetec, can any one give help on the redtop,

i have found a unit from a gsi and a gte.

thanks ROb..

you'll need different varieties of the same things for both but a new bellhousing will be required on top if going down the redtop route.

The red top out does the Zetec all week long. It may be a bit harder to fit (new bell housing etc), but will be worth the extra trouble.

Hi wheres nsdev. I dont belive that the letters VX have been mentioned whithout him knowing.

I would try and argue a case for the blue oval but think it would be pointless due to the fact that except for the adiitional bell housing £ for £ it wont beat th VX.

Even if it is heavier .

cheers matt

As above
Zetec cheaper if you want around 150bhp
XE cheaper if you want around 200bhp

Last guestimate I saw was the XE is 10-15kg heaver so not enough to worry about.

For alternator the nippon denso one from the daihatsu charade (and some others) is the normal favourite.

I've no doubt the VX is a better standard engine for power, the problem I had was finding one in good nick that didn't need a rebuild. When you see how cheap you can pick up zetecs for that don't need any money spent on a rebuild things change a a bit.

You can spend the money normally spent rebuilding the VX on cams/head for the zetec and end up with 190-200bhp so things arn't always what they seem...just a thought.

Or just fit a Duratec and get the best of both worlds.
