Ideally they should not be interchanged from head to head unless they are line bored . It may? ?? be possible to switch them without line boring by very carefully checking the cams rotate freely as the caps are torqued up

When you say race valves do you mean bigger? If so, it may be worth getting the new head and old cam carriers line bored to ensure they fit correctly.

the valves are a couple of mm bigger and the valves have been turned down towards the big bit. if you look in the port
there about 5mm in dia

Do you know if you can get oversize cam bearings, or do they run straight on the carriers? If you can get bigger bearings, it may be better to use the good head and get the carriers over bored a bit. Otherwise you'll only be able to use the cams in your existing engine, as it may not be worth getting a new head ported and the valves fitted.

The cams run directly in the head with no bearings , it is highly unlikely that caps from another engine would fit correctly.
It would be possible to have them line bored but would not be cheap.
It would probably be easier to have the seats recut for the larger valves and swap them to the head that is complete.
