People torque about them a lot but no one can afford them!

im not really thinking of getting one, it just seems like a better way of putting more power past the box with out it packing in and also gives more
leg room cause dont have to use a mt75 or similar, and no one cares about the sound in a open top like a seven. how much does a straight cut gear set
cost at the bottom end of the price scale

I think the first week point on t type 9 is the bearings them selves. after that it s the gears them selves.
Have a look here :-

I think you will find that they have good advice and know what they ARE talking about.
Beware of the Goldfish in the tulip mines. The ONLY defence against them is smoking peanut butter sandwiches.

but surely the bearing dont take anywhere near as much stress in a straight cut box since they dont have to work as trust bearings.
anyway ill take a read

Straight-cut gears can be astonishingly noisy - a friend used to do local rallies, and some cars failed the noise test due to the overall
engine/transmission noise, not the exhaust!

If I am not mistaken Martin Schanche he of rallycross fame used straight cut Quaife dog boxes derived from the type 9 in his 500 odd BHP Escorts way
back in the 80s.
