Painting headers, what paint to use?

Hi all,

The headers on my Mac#1 were painted black by the original owner but he didn't use the correct paint and it's mostly all come off. Going off everyones experience on here whats the best sort of paint to use? Would like a gloss finish if possible.

Cheers

Dave

I am going to use "Black Satin Header Coating". here
It is a ceramic product and claims to reduce heat output by 200 degrees.
It will be a while before I can test it!

"Originally developed for the Apollo Space programme" Now that's my kind of paint! They do a gloss too. Sounds just the ticket, cheers Confused!

What sort of finish does that Black Satin give? Is it brush on?

How about getting them coated. I think there is a nice sprayed on Zinc coating that you can have done and it isn't expensive.

The black satin is brush on, not sure of the finish. My headers are hidden on my car. I am doing it to reduce heat.
I don't recommend zinc on headers. It will burn and give off cyanide gas!
You can always get them ceramic coated.

Apologies the coating is an alumina and Zircona.

Ive yet to see paint hold up to the temp of header primarys. Best bet is to get them thermal-coated if you want them to stay pretty. Lowers underhood temps and might get a slight power gain too.
