V8 non idle problem
Hi all,
Following on from my thread relating to my mate buying a 1984 Range Rover 3.5V8 off ebay, it would appear that it will not idle withought the choke
pulled out.
Its on twin carbs and all looks standard to me.
any ideas on what simple procedured / checks to make firts to start eliminating things or making headway to sorting the problem?
Many thanks
ATB

Replace the carb diaphragms , they tend to split and cause problems , check and adjust ignition timing AND firing order.Check for air leaks including
throttle spindles. Balance and adjust co and idle.

The choke will only pull up the idle on one carb on standard range rover's, SD1's pulled on both.
Once the diaphams etc have been checked knock off the link rod between the carbs and twiddly the vertical idle screws until its idleing on both halves
evenly, then re-attatch the link rod and adjust so its acting on both carbs at the same time.
It sounds like someone has adjusted the idle on the throttle cable, this is wrong, you should adjust this so at full throttle (engine off) when the
carbs are fully open you are not stretching anything.
