Still got bike carb probs.
Hi all.
I'm having bother with my pinto/anchor in that i'm going through spark plugs at a rate of 400 miles ish to a set. I have been playing with
the carbs for what seems like forever (actually only about a month) and nothing I am trying seems to help. I will be getting it over to B brothers in
the not too distant for them to give it a once over but until then I need to get it a bit better otherwise i'll have to buy shares in NGK .
From what I have read and also advice that I have been given I thought that i'd get there but not yet! The things that I'm not convinced
about at the minute are.....
1) The float level, they are all about level but don't know at what height they should be at, with a piece of clear tube on the open float drain
and the engine running the level is about 6mm above the float bowl gasket does this sound anything like???
2) This one I think is the biggest culprit, Im still running the pinto fuel pump, would this cause massive overfueling and therefore burnout the plugs,
if not, what advantages are there in using a bike one????
Many thanks for any help given.
john.

We found that to get the bikes carbs to run rich enough at the top end we were running ridiculously rich at the bottom end, running ok at the bottom
meant we were leaning out alarmingly at the top, the answer is a dynojet stage 1 kit.
Dont know if thats your problem but hope it helps.

are your plugs black/damp if so its too rich on idle and could be the pinto pump.I checked my pinto at 7psi which for a lot of bike carbs is far too
much.alternatives if needed would be Yam R1 or hucco electric which i bought knocks out 2.1psi but has the volume needed.I tried a regulator but lost
the flow rate when I turned down the pressure

Will have a look at a dyno kit for price before boggs thanks, btw sorry to be a bit of a thicko, what is it??
The plugs are just as said, damp and sooty although with a colour tune it looks ok on tickover.
I forgot to mention previously that its a 2.0 pinto, zx9r carbs with 1.7mm main jets drilled out from a previous 1.6mm pots 1&4 and 1.65mm pots
2&3 ( why they were like this when i got them i don't know but thats how they were), there is a washer under the needles as well as the one
that looks like it was factory fitted. and the idle is ? but the flame at tickover is"bunson blue" So, is it likely to be just over
fueling or somthing else??
thanks again.

The dynojet kit is a set of adjustable needles and uprated jets, allows a bit more control over the fuelling using a stepped and adjustable needles.
More info at:

If you are running the pinto fuel pump and it does run at 7psi (i wouldnt know) then i suspect its way too high, i am using a facet red top with a
filter king regulator set to approx 4 psi on a 2 litre ZVH.

Bogg Bros did my set of carbs, they ran straight out of the delivery box, no other setting up has been needed, sadly though for you, I'm running
R6 carbs, with an R6 fuel pump, fitted to a x/flow, so not the same, just get it to Boggs, they will sort it for you

Thanks for all the responces guys.
Here's the plan..... get myself the right fuel pump for the job and then get over to bogg bros for them to sort it out, anyone know how busy
they are at the moment? I will be giving them a ring in the morning but just for an indication? Also have I read it right on these holy pages that
it's likely to be around the £60 marker for setting them?
thanks a lot

John
I had mine at Boggs yesterday (2,1 pinto gsxr600 carbs,)
he took over 4hrs to sort, had them on and off more times than i remember and it cost £80.
get a pressure reg, you only need 2psi,
get it to them it will be a differant car when Daves finished,
mine now has 140 bhp at the wheels, me and two mates who went with me were well suprised and delighted at the service
