Gearbox/diff alignment

Its a bit far off yet but i have started thinking about engine installation.
The only thing im not sure about is whether the gearbox and the diff need to be aligned?

How long can i resist the temptation to drop a V8 in?

Try a search, this has been covered quite a few times in the past.

Basically they dont want to be totally inline. A little off set is preferential so the driveshaft UJ's dont suffer 'Brinelling'. Basically the offset allows the bearings to run better and even out wear. UJ's are designed to run within an amount of articulation.

The gearbox output and diff input shafts need to be parallel though iirc.
