Personal preference would be supercharger for the noise. Also does the boost from a turbo not add extra fatigue to the engine?

Today is a good day: I achieved new heights of ineptitude.

Supercharger. More low down torque, and the modern centrifugal type chargers arent far off turbo performance at the top end either.

What you want is a procharger. Its basically a turbo compressor and housing driven off the engine by a compound epicyclic gearbox that makes getting on for 100kRPM at the impeller. Things like the Eatons and Sprintex (i.e. roots blowers) are fine low down, but they run out of puff at the top end.

TVR Power use another such centrifugal charger on their Chimaera conversions.

Worth remembering that a blower will sap about 30 bhp to make 100bhp (very rough guide) A turbo's power is freeeeeeee

Id go for both if i had room to do it.

Low down from the supercharger and the turbo for high up.

I do like the kick in the back from a turbo though..

On a low weight car like a 7 you want rapid throttle response which usually means a supercharger....

And yes, you can do the same with a turbo with lots of clever tricky to overcome humungous turbo lag by why bother?

Coincidentally I've just posted a short dyno video of my Rotrex SC install....

http://www.locostbuilders.co.uk/viewthread.php?tid=70421&page=1#pid588380

I've had turbos but decided the linear power delivery of an SC would be better suited. The centrifugal Rotrex is as far as I'm aware the smallest and most efficient of this type.

I don't suffer lag but my setup was deliberately boost limited to aid traction and transmission durability. I've also limited the top end as the Rotrex was geared to 8000RPM but my nerves ran out at 7200RPM!

You don't want anything else than a rotrex if you go for a centrifugal, and most defenatly not a procharger or vortech, those are very inefficient.

if something more Locost is in order just yank an eaton M45 or M62 on it. the 45 will do anything up to 250hp 62 will go a little further.

currently mounting twin m45's on a lexus V8

Would it be worth fitting a charger off a Mini?

Or, would it be easier to get TTS to fit one of theirs?

I would like to suggest the issue of control!

If you have a turbo you would want to make it a nice smooth delivery as going from on/off boost in the wrong place can be nasty. Usually though you can adjust your driving for this...

The supercharger would be linear delivery making a very controllable and responsive car. The install would probably be easier too.

Didn't PPC do a £50 supercharger conversion or something? They definitely ran a feature on SC conversions.

Having said that i'm a turbo man myself, had way too much fun with my old S13...

I prefer superchargers over turbos unless you are drag racing. Steady state cornering is much nicer when you aren't trying to keep the turbo from spooling up.

With superchargers there are two (feasable) options, twin-screw or centrifugal.
The twin screw is what will give you the low end torque a 4cyl so desperately needs, and the centrifugal will give you smooth power increase. The centrifugal just feels like you have a larger displacement engine.
If I decide I like my locost enough when its done, the 2.3L is getting a centrifugal blower.
Cheers.
