R1 Idle/Mixture

Hello,

More fuel mixture questions. I have been looking at the service manual for the R1s (and a pdf from Boggs) and they all suggest there should be a mixture screw on the base of the carb. As some of you may know I am having a few issues with a rich mixure when any load is put on the carbs and was hoping altering this would go some way to sorting the issue.

Below are a number of photos of the bottoms of my carbs. on the fist i would expect the mixture screw to be when i have marked 2. The only adjustment i can find is the screw between each carb (1) but as i understant it these are used to balance the carbs

Does anyone have this sort of setup if so anything i should know?

2 is definitely where the mixture screw should be looks like some sort of plug/cap in the hole? On mine the actual head of the screw is probably 5-10mm up inside the hole so I would think its some kind of anti tamper cap?

1 is as you said for balancing the carbs

Hope that helps

Hmmmm yes, that's bizarre! Are the carbs off a Californian model or something similar, where emmissions are strict?

If so, you're pretty stuffed....

Then I'd give him a call and point him to this thread so that he can see the pictures! I'm sure he'd do his best to help out!

Other than that, I'd be inclined to agree with the above and see if it is a plug/cap and whether you could pry it out with an elec screwdriver or something...

I would reckon that they're pressed-in fixed jets as opposed to a needle and seat.

I've just had a look at the carb'd R1 microfiches and manuals and there's no mention of brass plugs instead of pilot screws....!?!

I have been through a link that was posted on here a couple of weeks ago where you enter the year/model of the bike and it brings up an exploded diagram and have not found any instances of these plugs.

I did look to see if they could be removed but the hole is so small i cant see how you would get it off

look like US of A carbs with anti tamper plugs in them just drill a small hole in the plug and extract it to reveal the mixture screws
