ECV (Exhaust Control Valve)

Has anyone tried one of these little gizmos?

They might be handy for track days when you risk failing the strict noise levels.

I have thought of making a butterfly for the exhaust of my car and as the muffler runs down the drivers side of the car I was thinking of just making it entirely manual. My exhaust currently has a 40mm tail pipe that exits at the rear of the car but that connects to a 65mm outlet on the muffler. Once I have it registered I am going to ditch the tail pipe and just fit a 90-degree bend to vent the exhaust in front of the wheel arch. My idea is to fit the butterfly in this bend a simple lever should do the trick for operation. As my car is fuel injected the ECU should cope OK with changes in back pressure.

Best wishes IAIN

There must be loads of these in peoples dustbins.

Isn't it just a version of an EXUP valve?

Being a regular subscriber of that site I've followed the development of it. As similar systems are use on exotics the priciple obviouslt works! My only issue in my case is how to fit it to a fully exposed exhaust system neatly. At least with the solenoids the system is getting smaller.

Indeed, looks like Yamaha EXUP system. I seem to remember that it only worked on short exhaust systems.
It was quite difficult to tune it properly.

The MGTF has a simmilar system built into the exhaust apparently, under normal driving condtions only one rear tailipe is used, the second one only opening at full throttle/high RPM. I believe this was done to comply with noise emissions.

oooh I wonder if they are expensive..... or available now that they have bitten the dust.

Ian, how is the valve triggered? Solenoid or actuator?
