starter motor
Well another BAD day in the garage
I have a crap starter motor on the car which has barely enough torque to pull the skin off a rice pudding, and has left me stranded on one
occasion.
well i decided the buy an Edge High Torque starter motor.. the man on the phone said that it was no bigger than a standard starter, so i bought
one.
it's no longer but it is much fatter and so it will not fit in unless i cut the chassis rail out i will have to try and
return it if i can.
the diesel starter motors have been mentioned are these the 2.3 or the 1.8turbo ones. did both engines use the type 9 ?
what is the best year?
i'm running a 2.1 pinto with a type 9 box.
many thanks lads

Ditch,
sorry to hear about your troubles. I`ve got a fully reconditioned Pinto starter motor that I`m selling. I used it on my car for about 3 months at the
end of last year before I laid the car up for winter and then changed my engine set up so it`s now available for sale. The starter and reconditioning
owes me £65 but I`ll let it go at £40? Something for you to think about and at least you`ll know the starter would be o.k. Leave it with you as they
say! I can bring it to Donnington next weekend too if needs be.

many thanks snippy, i'll keep it in mind.
i'm looking for a high torque starter to deal with a new high compression engine.
i've heard that the diesel starter motors have more torque than the standard.

I had a similar issue, I am running a crossflow with 11:1 compression, so I use a startermotor of a sierra,so I had to change the flywheel starter
ring to that of a pinto on my engine. Did the job perfectly, and bought reconditioned for about 65stg

Don't know if a diesel starter would do the job but can't see any reason why not. One tip from CCC mag a few years ago was to use a
starter from an automatic Pinto which had more torque.May be of help?
