Propshaft grease nipples
That FS post has got me thinking- do most propshafts have grease nipples???
It's a long time since I've taken a butchers at my propshaft (tends to get covered quite early on the build) and I'm perhaps
understandably wary of my propshaft eating itself for lunch!!!! Perhaps the graunchy noise when I take off the pre-load isn't coming from the
diff it's coming from the rear prop CVJ!!!!!!

Land Rover ones do; one for the yoke and one for the slider. Pretty sure I have seen yokes with sealed bearings so those ones won't.

Aha! Looks like it's the "some do" answer I was dreading.... It appears it's time for me to go crawling under a precariously
proped up car to have a look!!!

Mine does, I have to take it out to allow enough clearance for one of the (longer than standard) prop bolts to pass through the hole in the flange.

mine (in a bec) only has one on the front UJ. the one at the rear and centre do not. i would assume that this means the standard sierra unit is
"maintenance free", but the one supplied for the sprocket adaptor is not.

Interesting that a lot of the hoodies using Sierra stuff opt for greasing facilities when fitting up the prop

Propshaft Grease Nipples
It all depends on the UJ manufacturer. Some have them fitted and others dont. Its all to do with "maintenance free" seemingly being
better. OEM`s want to make there products maintenance free, all it means is the UJ`s need changing more often.
However UJ`s without nipples (zerks if you are from the USA) are stronger. You do not need a recess in the yokes and flanges.
When fitting your UJ make sure you fit the UJ so the nipple is on the compression side of the spider in normal use ie going forwards.
Most small yokes (1140 series) have recesses for the nipple so you cant fit the spider incorrectly.
A common fitment on off roaders that need more articulation that could break off a nipple is to fit a grub screw for normal use and then screw in a
nipple for greasing.
