Type 9 Advice Please

Hi Everyone, I'm looking for a Type 9 five speed box to go onto the Pinto and I should be glad of some advice on whether there are some versions of the Type 9 that will not be suitable.

For example, I believe that some have an extended shaft. I have also heard that some have an electronic speedo take-off rather than the mechanical one that I need.

If anyone can confirm that the above is correct and point out any other elephant traps that I might plunge into, I should be very grateful.

Thank you very much for your help, once again.

John

I have done extesive research into the type 9. The speedo take off is difficult to determine from the donor but i think the electronic speedo take off just clips to the standard gearbox out put.
Basically there are three types, 2wd, 4wd and a V6 long input shaft variety in 2wd and 4wd, uless you are very good at engineering avoid the 4wd that leaves the 2wd Type 9 with short or long input shaftThe standard short input box comes in 3 or 4 ratio sets, avoid the P100 box as the first gear is unusable for our applications ( 3.9 to 1) the diesel box is stronger but has a very long 5th but can take more torque. For simplicity Any Type 9 from the 1.3 to 2.3 engines will fit with its 3.6 1st gear.
The V6 type 9 has the most favourable ratios available in a standard box, the only better Ford box is the T5 Cosworth, pays your money etc.
I have fitted the V6 type 9 to a Pinto by using the Caterham gearbox spacer between the V6 box and a Standard bell housing with configuration the engine and gearbox together is now 30mm longer, you may need a Quinto Hazell CT133 clutch release bearing 8mm thicker and the Granada 55mm throw clutch pawl.
with this lot instaled you get a 3.36 1st gear closer second and third, better BHP and torque tolerance and with the right tyres and rev range 60 in second and 90 in third.

Not on the one I've got - if you look at the 'electronic speedo' gearbox, it doesn't have an output for a cable speedo at all, and the steel cup-shaped bung on the opposite side is replaced by a sender. This sender is bolted to a boss next to the sender hole.

I'm looking for just such a sender just at the moment... if anyone has one they don't want...

What about the MT75. Plenty about good strong box, I've no doubt I'll be proved wrong.
