Building an airbox ?
Since there is nothing available from pipercross ( except for the larger PX600 type filter ) and if very expensive and so on
I have some plans to built an airbox instead of this :
My plan is to have an airbox welded together from aluminium. I will use a 70mm intake on the right side to fit someting like this :
some flexibile tube will be mouted to this leading to the front of the car.
Nothing exceptional for youse guys I think but I still have some questions.
Should I put the filterhousing plus filter as close to the airbox as possible or is it better to put it as far to the front of the car as possible ?
If I put it in the front the hose will be connected to the airbox. If mount it directly to the airbox the hose will go to the front.
What dimensions do we need ? It is a 4 age engine 1600cc 140bhp. THe larger PX 600 airbox is about 6 liters ( 57.9 x 18.9 x 7.8 cm )

Im sure ive seen an airbox on a Pipercross stand before. Possibly at Stonleigh '06. Carbon effect plastic, shaped very similar to in your top
pic. Might be worth contacting them. Only issue is it probs wont be cheap.

I would put the filter far away from the airbox to get cold air.
BMW M3 has 18 liter airbox for 4.2l engine capacity.
Latest bikes have airboxes of about 8 liters.

@Darran : that is the px 600 box which does not fit ( space is too less ) on the 500 series filter and backplate unless I use a 600 series back plate
but also too big for my application
@ettore bugatti I will use a hose to connect to the filterhousing leading to the front of the car somewhere or use a hose from the airbox to the
filter housing if I position the filterplushousing in the front of the car, as described in my forst post.thank you for the link !
