Ph3 Zetec 1.8, 38 or 40mm carbs

Got the Boggs manifold sorted, and two sets of carbs ZZR1100 - 40mm and ZXR750 - 38mm, I know the majority of folk are running 2.0L and 40mm. I'm thinking 38mm may be better for my 1.8, no tuning other than carbs, free flow exhaust and cleaning the casting snots out of the ports.
Anyone any experience of using smaller carbs on the 1.8 Zetec.
Rgds.
Pete.

They should be OK on either.

I'm using ZX9R carbs that are 40mm.
