Webber Alpha andf Zetec not working

Guys,

Im having problems with by Alpha kit K40023 which is for a 1.8 Zetec 130PS.

I have the right parts as per the instructions. When turning the engine over it tries to catch but when the throttle is depressed it does not even try to catch. However when I get the engine running its really very rich and eventually chokes itself. Takes quick start to do this.

I have been checking the throttle potentiometer voltages as per the instructions supplied by webber. Im getting some very different readings to what they state.

Blue wire to Blue Purple wire on Potentiomenter they quote 0.885-0.895 Volts at idle.
Im reading 4V which drops to 0.2 V when the throttle is fully open.

Im getting 0.8V with the throttle closed between the Red Green and Blue Purple wires. this rises to 4.5V with the throttle wide open. No value quoted here.

Across the Red Green and Blue in getting a static 4.5V regardless of throtle position. No value qouted here.

The wiring loom is the Webber supplied one with connectors prefitted.

in the connector the wires are in the order, top to bottom.
Red Green, Blue Purple, Blue.




Anyone experience similar or have any thoughts?

Sounds like the jetting and mixture is all wrong to me.

Thanks . What do I look for which is affecting the voltages when the engine is not started?

Your pot is working backwards. Either it's on the wrong end of the throttlebody spindle and going from full to idle in reverse or the R/Gr and Blue wires have somehow got their connections swopped. (I think!)

Guys,

Finally got to the bottom of the problem. the webber supplied wiring loom had the sig ref and ground wiris reversed in the plug.

For reference shound anyone esle get this problem in the future, pin 1 is Red /Green, Pin 2 is Blue Purple, pin 3 is Blue. the guy from webber was very helpful and shocked to find the loom had gone out wrong. Pin 1 is at the bottom of the potentiomenter.

too late but yep, pot operating wrong way round, easy mistake to make with the colvern ones
