Black Top Zetec Gotcha's
Hi all,
Just picked up a black top zetec that I'm going to replace a pinto with. I've found a number of silvertop -> type9 threads/sites, but
nothing really on the blacktop. Are there any gotcha's i need to be looking out for that are different from silvertop to blacktop?
Any other hints, tips and so on always welcome too!
(BTW, I have done a search and spent a bit of time looking on this site, so apologies if this is a repeat - didn't realise)
Thanks,
Ben

Have a look at
http://www.toyne.org.uk/zetec.html
you will have to install an idler pulley so that the water pump runs round the correct way, but one advantage is that it has a two part sump, the
bottom of which is steel so shortening is easier.

Just the water pump. Several options for that - including idler pulley arrangment, reverse impellor from Quicksliver in the US or even just running it
in reverse (I did this for a while with no adverse affects noticable).
Sump is really easy to sort.
Inlet / Exhaust system / Engine Mounts / Flywheel are all interchangeable with silvertop.
Loads of pics in my gallery. Been running one in my Fury for 3/4 years now (think it was one of the first).
One point of note is if you're using aftermarket gauges, you may find it easier to make them fit by using a silvertop thermostat housing.
