fiat panda 4x4

me and a mate have been talking about fitting a bike engine to a fiat panda 4x4 .
do you thik its possible ive never seen the 4x4 layout. anyone got any info? whould the 4x4 parts take the power lol if not we could always find out. good idea bad idea. and no iam not going to be drivin it lol. just helping to do it.

ive just found out the gear ratios.

1st... 3.909
2nd.. 2.056
3rd... 1.344
4th... 0.978
5th... 0.730

final drive ratio 11/60

Best car I ever owned. the drive train was design by Puch, it a rear live Axle and McPherson front. the car is totally front wheel drive until a little lever brings in the rear wheel drive. which is only usable on a loose surface...excellent in snow

you would have fun connecting a bike engine up, but the fire engine in the panda is great, but if you want a loony Panda find a lancia Y10 turbo

The haynes manual online says 680kg this could be one rapid car lol.

yep the old one his mate has one that he can have for naff all so it just got us thinking of what we could do. as you do lol.
or we was thinking of just making it rwd. but its to cold to go and have a look under the car to see what setup its got lol.

remove the front drive shafts, seal holes, pull handle next to gear lever, drive away a rwd

A superb car... can go places a landrover wouldn't!
I have thought about that conversion myself... but have seen a really nice Panda with a Rover V8 where the rear seats should be! - now that was a fast car (hill climber)

Saying that there is a race team who get 100hp out of the FIRE engine - often thought it would be interesting in a lightweight seven as the engine is lighter than a lot of bike engines!

As previously mentioned the 4-wheel drive can only be used on a loose surface as there is no centre diff. I recon your best bet is keep it simple and have a look if you can make it rear wheel drive which will save weight too.

The gear ratio's are surely irrelevant as you will be removing both engine and gearbox. Whats the rear diff ratio then -would it work with a bike engine??

I think you will also need to make a new transmission tunnel as the propshaft in the Panda hangs really low.
