THE WORST ENGINE CHANGE EVER

Have been changing my lads engine, Toyota gt4 turbo,What a t--t, to get it out you have to take engine plus gearbox out split gearbox at the diff so you can get engine away from bell housing. Are there any other cars worse than this to get engines out.

Sounds about the same as a Rav 4, absolute $hite job to do, mind you they are from the same family.

Awesome cars tho....... which gt4 is it? twin light one (ST205) or the earlier pop-up light one (ST185).

I had an ST205 and yes, removing the engine is a real balls ache

I think you can pretty safely add "worst <insert ANYTHING to do with working under the bonnet of a GT4 here> " to this.

Beautiful cars, fantastic drives, but feck are they are PITA to work on - at least under the bonnet, one of the main reasons I wouldn't let the missus get a GT4, sticking to the 2WD. You can almost fit a small spanner in that engine bay if you are careful.

i had to do a clutch change on a gt4 st205 type. had to drop engine out, that was a fairly big task, but didnt split the diff. rav4 are easier have done many d4d clutch changes. all i can say is unlucky you for the gt4 engine change not very nice at all. but im sure there are alot worse engine changes to be had.

Having looked under the bonnet of my new Civic I would say that was probvably worse! I took one look and decided I'm not doing anything under there! most of the engine/gearbox is actually under the dashboard!

alfa 156 engine was ball-ache to change, never want to do one again! The thing with anything jap is that every nut/bolt is done up uber-tight

Once changed en engine on a train (Virgin Voyager) on my first day on the job, there was a couple of experienced blokes and about 5 of us newbies, did it all in a shift. Wouldn't advise doing one in the garage though

I once helped in changing a Rolls Royce engine on a C-17 Hercules in Kuwait. It weren't too bad. Prop off and 4 massive stretch bolts holding it on. Dancer The 2nd worst bit was that the replacement oil came in 3 boxes of sealed little tins, took ages. The 1st worst bit was having to fly back to Iraq on it! Sh1t scary relying on work that you and 3-4 hairy arsed, heavy drinkers have just done

I did mine in my driveway, it's awkward but nothing like as difficult as people make out. In fact I'd say my MR2 Turbo was just a difficult in it's own way (having to lean over the rear wing to get into engine compartment made any engine work horrible on that).

Not quite an engine change but

Once changed a headlight bulb on a Fiat Stilo...

front wheel off, wheel arch liners out, battery out, battery tray out disconnect a zillion wires to remove battery tray....

An it's still a cow that will take your knuckles off!

Dealer price to change bulb... £200!!
