Plugging up my pump?

Having switched to twin 40's my plan is to blank off the holes in the water pump and manifold (the heater circuit) and remove the thermostat so the water runs straight round the rad.

Is this OK?

I guess the engine will take longer to heat up so I might have to be easy on it till it does but presume it will then be OK as my fan is electric and on a thermo switch. That will stop it overheating but I don't want it to run too cool.

Pretty sure at the moment it heats up enough to open the stat pretty quickly as there is no heater matirix and llike most sevens cooling enough is more of an issue than over cooling.

I could run some pipe round if I have to though.

I used to be apathetic but now I just don't care.

I thought on most Sevens over-cooling is a distinct possibility- a great big open nose cone shoveling loads of air through a radiator attached to a relatively unstressed engine...

Should be okay though, just keep a very close eye on coolant temperatures....

I would leave the stat in and run a pipe from manifold to waterpump. This allows a quicker warm up and allows the temp to be regulated correctly. You will also need to connect a header tank somewhere and the ideal position is teed into the manifold to pump hose.

I think the problem relates to getting the hot air out not fresh air in.

And as for not being stressed.....I thought that was mandatory .

Not bothered with a header tank. I'm using the old skool method with a pressurised cap and a bottle of water to hand. Might put one in later though.

No don't leave it out. The engine will massively over cool when driving, terrible mpg and the oil won't reach temperature.

No.

Thermostat should be in the circuit.

Twin side draught (<-- second time today I have typed that!) manifolds have a water take off. Connect that to the water pump.

Proven and known to work.
