1100 Kent to RWD 'Box
For insurance reasons I intend fitting an ex-Fiesta 1100 Kent into a 'Seven'. Which gearboxes can I use, what modifications are
required?
Thanks, Ferg

you do not have to mod the engine at all you just have to put a ford type 9 gear box on it

Just out of interest, why are you putting a 1100cc in. What age are you. I think if you phone up some insurance companies and get some quotes you will
find that the engine size does not make that much of a difference. I recently changed my insurance from a 1300cc crossflow to a 2 litre zetec and it
only went up by 60 quid.....
I think if you put a 1100cc fiesta engine in you will not really get the most enjoyment out of it.
Mind you, you can always upgrade in the future, if you are going to use a type 9 just about any ford engine will bolt straight on.
Try sureterm, adrain flux, and some others in the back of the kit car mags. I got mine for about £400 for a 23year old 3 points, no no claims.... not
too bad,

Just to note that the FWD fiesta crossflow is not the same as the Mk2 escort crossflow mentioned in the book, different engine mounts, no spigot
bearing and something else I can't remember, perhaps someone else can!
Cheers

Note to all: I really don't know when to leave well alone. I tried to get clever with the mods, then when they gave me a lifeline to see the
error of my ways, I tried to incite more trouble via u2u. So now I'm banned, never to return again. They should have done it years ago!

How old am I is just the question!! I'm actually 41, but my son is 15 and I want him to build his first car so 17 is the answer to the age
question. Some kit insurers won't touch them 'til 18, but some are OK with small engines i.e. UNDER 1300cc. The amazing thing is that an
1100 cc kit is about a third of the premium of a 1200 cc mainstream car which is, as we all know, heavier, slower and very boring!
I drive a Libra incidentally and the insurance is not bad at all with MSM.

That's reassuring. I'm same age, 6 points all expired (don't know how long for tho! ), 2 years NCB. Not got any quotes yet as I
figured it'd probably make me think twice about finishing it!
