Another diff question - this is too complicated!!
Hi guys, thanks for the help with the sierra donor questions I had.
I try to source my donor parts for the MNR.
Here is a diff code I received from a seller, but he claims he could not read it 100%.
AE4033 0353 - supposedly from a '84 2.3D Sierra
He has the whole back end available with shatfs, hub carriers, hubs, brakes.
Can anyone identify what diff it is? I have received a great couple of code lists, but can't find this code. I can imagine it is an AC diff, in
which case it is 3,38 bolt on type diff. But the numbers also don't match and AC is supposed to be on later cars...
Second question: Should I go for bolt on or push in shafts? Which is better / lighter?
Oh! And another question, just seen a 4x4 estate Sierra advertised for parts would that be interesting for something? I believe it has a 3.62 LSD.
Should I bother?

Bolt on shafts and diff are said to be 10kg heavier than push in shafts and diff. Bolt on shafts are stronger but shouldn't be a problem in a
BEC.
I like my LSD but others don't.

Indeed all LSD's are bolt on - but don't assume that ALL bolt-on diffs are LSD 
The easiest way to tell - is jack the rear end off the floor - spin one wheel, if the other spins the same way = LSD, if spins opposite, NON-LSD...
This method doesn't work with TORSEN diffs though

If the diff is from a 2.3D then read this, you may make a few pounds. it should be a 3.14

Thanks onzarob. I will make sure I check it well. I discussed with the seller and will buy the whole back end. I also have another offer for a
confirmed 3.38 diff, so in worst case I will have two identical ones, but I might end up with two good ratios...
And I will definitely stick to push in shafts if there is 10kg difference...

Not all 2.3d sierra's are fitted with 3.14 diffs,and from the numbers given I can't confirm if it is or is not,the only sure way is to
remove the rear cover,its usually wrote on the crown wheel.My diff was out of a 1985 2.3d sierra and it turned out to be a 3.38 ,again I could not
read the tag on the diff as it was a bit corroded,but took a gamble,as I only payed £120 for the whole car,so again if your buying it at the right
money,could be worth a gamble,its going to be at least a 3.38,these are going for around £150/200,so if you dont use it sell it on,the 3.14 are going
for around £250/£350,so it all depends on what he's asking for it.
