Damn VW Sharan gearbox - AGAIN!!

Had a brand spanky new auto gearbox in our VW Sharan 9 months ago as the last one failed at 58,000 miles. This one has done about 5,000 miles and it is playing up again!

When it changes up from 2nd to 3rd it holds the revs far too long and too high then slams itself into gear but not all the time (typical).

I was in a Q for the car park in Croydon today and went to move off and there was no drive, it just revved. I had to take it out of Drive a few times before it would behave.

We are suposed to be going to Scotland in it on Tuesday but looks like we will be spending most of the day fart arsing about with hire cars etc

At least it's still under guarentee.

Another one -- Sharans & Galaxys don't exactly have brill reputation. Two faults the same are odd though wonder if it could be ECU related.

I keep recommending Kia Sedonas --- totally lacking in street cred but I know a few taxi drivers who swear by them -- I have hired Sedonas when abroad a few times the 2.8 diesel is not bad to drive either.

With a name like Sharron, what can you expect, sounds a bit like an Essex girl, and a blonde one at that. Ray

I did some checking apparently some Sharan and Galaxy models use the JATCO transmision as used on the Freelander, some Jag X type, Rover 75.

I know from Rover 75s that this gearbox is very sensitive to fluid level and type Thr fluid level checked when it has reached a specified temperature via a level plug.

From my experience the suggestion that VWs are reliable is a load of bull. Good for 80thou then walk away.

Yes but have you checked the levels now?
If they didn't and they are low it will be a lot easier/cheaper than hiring a car.

You trust the 16 year old minimum wage mechanic to check and fill to the correct levels?
