Petrol additives (e.g. Redex, STP etc)

Hi all,

posted earlier this week with a 2.0 DOHC Sierra engine that wouldn't start, have now got it started, thanks to some Easy Start.
Hasn't been run very much in the past 6 or so months, and from what I've seen could do with a bit of a blasting.
So my question is really, do you guys rate any of the Redex products?

edit - May post this in the Fuel injection subforum if people think it'd get more responses there?

Thanks again

well..... i know a lot of people use redex to clean out the engine

when i used redex though, i went through 3 fuel pipes. my car kept blowing them open at traffic lights. the problem stopped after a few new petrol hoses and me stopping using redex.

Why are you going to just "top up" with Optimax. Surely now you've done a bit of problem solving and it looks like it could be the fuel, you should drain the tank fully, clean it and then start with fresh petrol.

Decent/clean/fresh petrol is all everone elses car is running on, so why not give it a chance in yours before throwing other quick-fixes at it?

True I suppose, is draining the tank relatively easy?

To be honest I wasn't entirely sure it was the fuel, but not being mechanically savvy, I'd suppose that would make sense as it runs now!

edit - And blowing fuel pipes doesn't sound too fun either!

I use to use redex till I switched to optimax stuff, don't see the point in using both.

noooo, my fuel pipes get blowing right before the injector rail, so it was pissing fuel all over my starter motor it did it while i was away from my house, so it was fingers crossed every time i had to start the engine, because electrics and petrol dont mix! ha ha

Im a little curious as to how redex would cause fuel pipes to blow off? If they were in good order and correctly secured then that shouldnt happen. If it was a common occurence then id guess the product would have been pulled on safety grounds by now. Its been in use since before engines were invented hasnt it???

all i know is, as soon as i started using it, my car had its fuel hose replaced 3 times and was fine once i stopped using it. thats good enough for me!
