To Chop, Or not to chop - Fireblade Sump

Hi Guys,

The lower part of my 954 fireblade sump sticks out the bottom of the car rather a lot. Having the sump bolt underneath restricts it even further.

Is it safe to reduce the pan by say 25-35mm and put the bolt on the side?

Its already baffled.

It clips the odd speed bump, my drive and could well hit something when out playing hard.

Any hints and tips on this would be great - I can get hold of a sump, just not sure if its safe to do on this engine!
Any photos would be great!

Cheers!

Chop it if you can, it's a disaster waiting to happen! Check to see if you need to modify the oil pickup pipe, don't let it get too close to the bottom of the sump or you may get oil starvation.
Just run the regular volume of oil which will put it high on the sight glass, but you should run it high anyway with a car installation to avoid oil starvation in cornering.

Cheers for the quick reply...
I'm looking to buy a sump and pipe from a 929 so i can mod it 'off the car' and still have mine if it all goes wrong.

I just moved my drain to the side although chopping it would have given a real benefit in ground clearance.

Alloy sump + half brick + 50mph = AA ride home + sick engine!

So has no one done this on a 954 before?

I think (but not certain) that my uncle has chopped a couple of 954's before. Do they look more like a ZX9 sump with a pronounced bowl sticking out the bottom where the pickup sits?

Might be worth cross posting this in the BEC specific section as you'll get more answers I suspect.
