Which engine.
Basicly i have a working 1600 pinto out of my donor car but plan on fitting a 1800 2.0 zetec at a later date.
Firstly should i stop being a wimp and just source and zetec and all the bits and fit this first or pinto to get me up and running, bearing in mind my
right foot isnt very well restrained in quick cars and i still want to be here for a few more years and my every day car is a 1.8 zetec.
Secondly whats involved with swapping engines over in respect with the v5?
Cheers
John

Or fit a zetec with standard Fi and then tune it when you want more bhp

if you want to go zetec at a later date, build it round it from the start.
the exhaust and inlet are on opposite sides between the two engines so that means you'll need a new bonnet as a minimum, possibly a new side
panel depending on exhaust routing.
along with that, you'll need a new inlet manifold and loom along with engine mounts and gearbox bits. financially, it makes no sense and makes
the build no easier when put in perspective.
hope this helps make your mind up somewhat.

Definately go straight for the Zetec and fit a set of bike carbs or bike TB's with MegaJolt / MegaSquirt.
Go for a standard 1.8 and then when you want a bit more oomph fit a set cams out of a 2.0L if you are worried about the performance..................
or STOP BEING A GREAT BIG GIRL (with appologies to Fozzie / Claire ) and go straight for a 2L which will give an extra 10bhp over the 1.8 with cam
change. I did this when i built my first car and simply used my right foot more gently until i got used to it.
The problem with going for a Pinto and then converting to Zetec is you will end up spending twice on bits like exhaust, inlet manifold etc etc, and
the exhaust exits on the opposite side so you end up with a big hole in the side. A better option though if you start with a Pinto would be to fit a
Duratec eventually as the exhaust comes out on the drivers side too.

Don't forget the Pinto will give MOT emissions that are easy to meet and no cat ever.

And also, do you ever really want the exhaust exiting under your ear? Personally I couldn't ever deal with that, screw my passenger on the
other hand, they don't have to deal with it all the time.
Go straight for the zetec, whether you go 1.8 or 2.0 might as well be down to £s though, purchase price and mpg cos 2.0 is barely any more power.

Pre Aug 95 Zetec is easy on the emmissions too and doesnt need a cat - same as the Pinto. Visible smoke afterwards at SVA for both so dont see an
advantage there

I agree with the above.
Not work hassle with pinto - ebay it, find zetec, pre 95 so no cat and fit that.

It would be boring if we agreed all the time! I fancy a 2002 st170 from a focus or st220 from a mondeo if it'll go in, I know the focus will not
sure about the mondeo though, as these engines are from 2002 onwards I should be able to easily find a nice low mileage unit. Cheers Rich

Drove guys Quantum from work and realised that a zetec at minimum his being a 2.3 duratec omex 600 and jenvy TB's and fast road cam, had it
rolling roaded so i thought it would be rude not too
what would ppl recommend, TB's or carbs. Was going to use bike bits and MS to try and save £££££££
Was going to potentially put a fast road cam in it,
