bogg brothers rolling road set up 1.6pinto fireblade carbs

just wanted to tell everyone i had a fantastic morning at bogg brothers today.

set off at half 7 in pissing down rain but it'd stopped by the time i left the far side of dewsbury. M1 was full of spray but the a64 was nice and dry. got to east lutton spot on thanks to owelly and richard k's suggestion.

old man bogg......is it dave? was really friendly and helpful and we chatted about general bike carbs and pinto stuff while he got cracking. set the timing, set the idle, ran the gas analyser then did a dyno run.

it was rich, as i'd assumed from its thirst for petrol. the jets the carbs were sent out to me with were 160s. changed down to 150s and did another dyno run. it pulls so cleanly through all the rev range. no flat spots, no hesitiation.

ITS BRILLIANT!

90 bhp at the wheels and goes like a stabbed rat. this is standard head and cam. totally standard basically except exhaust manifold and fireblade carbs.

after the carbs were sorted, we had a look in the piper catalogue for a suitable cam if i wanted to upgrade. this wasn't pressure selling, just helpful friendly advice (and a hint as to where to get a cam even cheaper). he even fitted me a return spring for the throttle and found me a more suitable pipe for the float chamber breathers so it was a complete remedy to all my problems.

totally worth the £80. it used 4/5ths of a tank of fuel getting there and less than half that on the way back. i'll save the £80 in fuel over summer alone.

this is what i look like now

Dont want to over egg the pudding but they are the dogs bits. I went there with my Skoda Estelle trials car that I have on Fireblade carbs. He did things I wouldnt have had a clue about. £80 covers the cost regardless of the time he spends. Made me cringe when he ran it up to 7000 rpm as I built the motor up myself. Get in soon for Saturdays as he said he was thinking of jacking them in. I was in for 11am and finally got started at about 2pm because he is so conscientious. Look around at the other motors he has in. Renault A110, Lotus Cortina, Jag E Type, Peugeot Hot Rod, Tiger, Mk 1 and 2 Escorts etc and EVEN a tractor. Top BOLLOCK!!!

we had a look through the piper book and his recommendation was initially the BP270 but he also said the BP285 would run really well with the blade carbs and not lose any of the torque.

we also discussed the OHCA8 cam that he's fitted to a lot of mk2 escorts. apparently 'it'll pull like a bloody train and it'll keep pulling'

the main recommendation was to ring autosprint in birmingham as they'll reprofile your own cam for half the price of a new piper blank.

i might just check the valve clearances on mine for the minute as it was only the mild death rattle that got us talking about it.
