price help please!

Someones advertising a 1.8 silvertop zetec out of a formula ford. I went to have a look at it today and it comes "complete" with dry sump kit (minus oil tank) all engine electrics with a Formula Ford T2 brain. and no alternator. How ever because of space and where it sits in the car it doesnt have a conventional pully set up just a pissy lil belt one driving the water pump and one the oil pump, would this be hard to convert back to the ribbed belt because of needing a alternator on the road?!
The engines internals are completely standard to abide by the championship rules, as is the induction and inlet.

The guy wants 800 quid for everything, is this a reasonable price to pay or OTT?

Regards

John

Just for reference... I bought a fully refreshed (looked brand new) FF Zetec engine with Dry Sump and Intake from a well respected race engineering company for £650 last year.

I'd try and haggle on the price a little.

Hi

Agree it sounds a bit expensive.

But if you can beat him down a bit I would go for it, as the dry sump saves loads of phaffing about later when you decide you want one, and you will..
Just so your heart's not in your mouth on every bumpy road you go over, and as for speed humps

Currently looking to dry sump a 4age and it's going to cost me more than that just for the bits..

yer i thought that's what he was going to say about the 600 mark, the guy who met me said that he wouldn't take any less than 800, he originally wanted 900. Don't get me wrong this engine is spotless just seemed alot of money considering it is stock internals, even if it has been race preped by a well know company (cant remember the name). Might be worth biding my time!

A striker is VERY tight on space in all directions
To give you an idea mine has a chopped wet sump 4AGE in it, with the rocker cover nearly touching the underside of the bonnet there is 40mm under the sump to the ground..

Oh...

Did you have a measure ?

The zetec is a tall engine and you wont loose a great deal more than a chopped wet sump.

What bhp was it putting out ?

Its probaly not a bad deal if you take into acount the ecu.

The fiesta/escort style alloy inlet manifold they use is also very tall.

Not sure what power but like i said everything internally was standard to keep to the formula ford regs that included the EFI manifold etc! So answers on a post card to what difference the brain makes 20ish brake at a complete guess--> 130 140???

Trying to think what sort of blacktop 2.0 i could buy and do up for £800???

Yup something like that, but the value is in who built it, if it's from one of the well know FF builders (Scholar etc) then it'll be blueprinted / balanced etc etc and that makes a huge difference to the way it drives.

Scholar is the engine builder you just reminded me Jim, and yes its blueprinted. Last re-build I was informed was about 2k ago but i cant imagine that its had an easy life on the tracks but..... its going to have been really well looked after.
