Fitting a Peugeut MI16 in a kitcar (upright, not 30° angle)?

Hi all,

I'm building an offroad sprinter (simular to a kitcar, but this one is for offroad) to compete in local offroad races.

I am the proud owner of a very good peugeot MI16 engine.
The problem is however that normally the engine is fitted in a 30° angle in the car. Now we will be fitting the engine
longitudinally (in a rear engine configuration). So i was wondering what the issues are in putting the engine completely upright?

I will be using a Pace Dry Sump system, so in the bottem there will be no problem of oil surge, but there could be problems in the
oil returning from the head...

Is there anyone out there who has experience in using the MI16 in a upright placement and could give me some hints?

Thanks

Not sure what specific issues you would have with oil return. Might be worth checking where the drain holes are whenupright and longitudinal - i.e. left, right, front rear etc. You might even be able to experiment with the engine upright and the cam cover off by pouring oil into the head and seeing how it drains into the sump.

There might also be issues with intake and exhaust manifolds needing to be angled to suit an upright install and it's a very tall engine too. Although if building from scratch you could accommodate this in your design.

Mating Pug engines to RWD gearboxes is a very common question on this forum. Several gearboxes have been suggested from other manufacturers, but a custom bell housing or adapter plate seems to be the only real solution.

What gearbox will you be using?

The height of the engine won't be the problem, as it will be used in an Offroad buggy (Fast & Speed, the model that is also used in the Race Of Champions).

In terms of Manifolds, I don't think that will pose any questions, since I'll be using Jenvey trotthle bodies. As for the exhaust manifold, i'm sure I'll get that figured out :-)

For the gearbox, I'll probably be using a 6-speed sequential from Quaife (they will also supply the bellhousing)

oil supply shouldnt be an issue but make sure your fueling is corrected as mounting angle will make a difference.
