pinto differences
Hi I'm lead to believe there are 2 variations of pinto 2.0L onr of which has 205 on the block would one of u knowledgable people please

I'm no expert on Pinto's, but I think the 205 is the stronger block and was used in Cosworth engines.

205's are the later ones (mainly EFI engines)
20's are the early ones (carb'd sierra etc)
the 205 is a bit stronger / thicker / heavier (its the same as the cossie 2wd block)

Ford made 3 types
2l block capri / cortina
2l /205 block sierra
2l / 200 block these were for the cosworth
+ 1.3 / 1.6 / and 1.8 blocks

...and unless you're looking at tuning it to a relatively high level or going for a bigger capacity bore then any of them will be perfectly OK
to use - assuming of course it's in good condition!
Regarding the cylinder head, the injection head is said to flow better than the non-injectoin head due to better port shape. These are identified by
the arched roof of the inlet ports as opposed to the flat roof of the non-injection inlet ports.

most of the 205's have a very large "205" cast into both sides of the block - you can't miss it

as well as the head the other main difference is the EFI engines have slightly stronger conrods
6700rpm for the early forged rods
6900rpm for the later cast ones
(according to the book anyway)

Also, IIRC, the 205 block is ok with unleaded.

not all of them
there is a code stamped on the head - I think the haynes books tell you what it means

Also, the Burton catalogue / website is a pretty good source of info on all the Ford engines, including a dating chart (for figuring out when they
were built, not like blind date...... you know what I mean... )
