Long and short input shafts for type 9's
Is the gear the same size on the different type 9 input shafts? To convert is it as simple as swapping the input shafts over?

No, as far as I know, and, requires just about a full strip to get the drive shaft out.

Hi David, when I was in the old ford circles they used to have the longer shafts machined down on the V6 type 9s when they wanted to fit a stronger
version of the box to their pinto engined cars.
This would suggest that you cant just swap them, but I have no direct mechanical evidence..

simple is not a term I would use, I had this problem when I changed from the pinto to the 2.8 v6
When I looked at what was involved I bought a capri gearbox

Its not a problem stripping the gearbox to change the shaft, all I want to know is if they are a direct swap.

A brief guide.....
Input shafts come with 18 teeth and 19 tooth gear.
Short shafts made by Ford will have 18 teeth
Long shaft 2.8 V6 will have 19 teeth
there are long shafts that have 18 teeth ie 2.3 and diesel.
you cannot just swap 18t to 19t and vice versa without changing Laygear to match.

Cateham do a spacer for the long shaft gearbox that goes between the gearbox and bellhousing to make up the difference in lengths. Much easier than
stripping gearboxes or shortening shafts.

I need to wait and see when I get it but I might have a bell housing for a long input shaft and a std shaft on my HD gearbox...
Need to wait and see I guess.

I thought your standard T9 had a gearkit so it would cope with your Duratec power?

It does... only I am currently unsure (until I recieve it) whether or not the duratec bellhousing I won on ebay last night is for the std or long
input shaft type 9.
If its for the std, happy days. If not I am wondering whether I can just change the input shaft on my box...?
