hello, first time poster... i am thinking aboot getting an mk indy or RH 2B. any suggestions as to the best engine choice in terms of reliability? i
am thinking the 2L pinto from a sierra. also my engine know how is a bit vague, any recommendations as to a bit of bedtime reading for how to recon

not a clue about engines...
buuut
Buy the Mk (also have a look at luego and the GTS jobbie), i've heard nothing good about robin hood. ever.
my indy has pretty much fallen together, no real problems so far.

Buy the MK. Don't get too involved with doing a recon job on the Pinto as there are plenty of good ones out there for very little money. If you
start to get into a few hundred £ budget you are getting into bike engine power money or for a little more zetec/Vx 16v price range. Take time with
engine choice as it is just as important as the kit choice and will determine how the car ends up.

there are many happy 2b owners, and many happy mk owners.
however, happy mk owners seem to get a kit that goes together better, and better customer care.
take a look on
http://groups.yahoo.com/group/robinhood2b
lots of stories of quality problems and 'dont give a crap' attitudes from supplier.
On the other hand, Martin attends most shows (martin keenan) so at least he backs up his product in person

hey, cheers for all all the advise. I am definately steering toward the mk. do you get any "build manual" with the mk? or is it all down
to experience? just been looking at the "gts jobbie" and the luego locost. they also look pretty good. has anyone out there built a gts,
and how was it? this kit looks good value compared to the luego. was a build diary included (gts)?

you get a little manual with the MK, it's quite handy but i've not really needed it, the
bible is useful as well

ok gonna sound totally stoopid now, but here goes.....
pretty much made my mind up on engine: 2L pinto. However the non-injection cannot take unleaded without valve conversion is this right? approx cost of
conversion? with all the experience on this site: injection or carbs??!
does getting an injection engine make the loom any more confusing than it already seems to be??
cheers

Cost of conversion can vary-reckon on £100. Or find a late sierra on a carb and look at no.4 spark plug hole-should be letters to denote unleaded
compatability.P,PP,R or RR. Or find an injection head at a breakers-should be fairly cheap. I think theres only 4 extra wires to add to injection
setup anyway, lots of people run injection pintos-can be quite good too, although i'd go for a nice fat pair of 45's!!

IIRC, the plenum on the injection engine is quite high for the bonnet. Not sure though! GTS kit is quite new but the dude who sorts it posts on here
quite often, so is easy to chat with. MK has more reputation but darren (gts) is a nice bloke, so its cirles and roundabouts!
id go bike if i started again BTW! cheap blade or something like that.

That would be one of the last ones made, probably be about H reg ('91)? Dont know when they started putting UL heads on them, probably about 89
onwards. Look for the markings by number 4 spark plug as JJM says, that will tell you if its UL head or not

the standard dohc arn't worth sh*t have a look at my build using a injection head with mild porting by des hamils book on sohc tuning fit a good
cam kit and a set of 45's only thing is you'll need to take care of the distributor side of things but there are kit around for doing your
own, mega squirt rings a bell, get the bottom end balanced it don't cost much, where are you based?
