removing a/c and PAS pumps...

I'm thinking I can just remove pas+aircon pumps then use shorter pulley belts, is this correct or am I just being dumb?

It depends on what does the tensioning, and whether removing these parts will route the belt through some obstruction and also whether it leaves you with enough "wrap" around the remaining pulleys.

also just make sure that the things you keep belt driven, don't rely on turning, say anticlockwise, and when you've done your conversion they end up going clockwise (like how some zetec water pumps go the opposite way round to everything else)

i didn't expalin that very well, but i'm sure you get it

If the engine is still in a car be sure to have the A/C Gas recovered first as it is illegal to vent the gas to atmosphere.
