Rotary Engine with Miata drivetrain?
Has anyone tried this combination?
The miata transmission is a lot smoother than the RX-7.

are you talking about the 5 or the 6 speed?
the six speed MX-5 box was also used in the Lexus IS200 and the Nissan 200 SX and also the new Mazda RX8
if you have a gen 2 engine why not just get a Series 5 Turbo box and be done with it?

I'm just starting research of my project and I have had a miata (5 speed) with one of the slickest transmissions around. I am also interested
in the simplicity, compactness and smoothness of the rotary.
The main reason for the inquiry is to see if anyone has fitted any rotary engine to any miata driveline. Do they bolt up or are any mods needed to
splines, bellhousing, clutch, etc?

Sounds interesting if you like that sorta thing. Personally I like the notchyness of the rx7 tranny, makes me feel more conected. But, like I said
some people go for a purely comfortable ride, me I like it rough

My first RX7 transmission wan't notchy all was good till I blew it. The one I have now is notchy. But this is a gearbox that is 20 years old.
have you checked out gurumotorsports.com? have a look at what they offer
Stick with a RX7 gearbox save the head f&&ks

Miata drivetrain is all geared up to use their "PPF" - a separate ally girder that runs down the tranny tunnel & takes diff reaction
torque at the back + replaces engine rear (gearbox) mounting. There's not room for a PPF ina locost so you're into dodgy mechanics to find
a workaround. Is a nice 'box tho!
