PiperCross filter bits

At one of last year's shows I bought a PiperX filter and mounting kit for my Weber 32/36 DGAV. I want to fit it, now that I know that the engine's not going to backfire into it!

In the mounting kit there are 2 very hard rubber 'gaskets' or spacers - does anyone know if I have to fit one or both of these, or can I do without? I want to keep the filter as low as possible, so I'd rather do without.

I don't think they're heat insulators - that isn't a concern on the top of the carb. They may be spacers, but there's plenty of room inside the filter, I think.

cheers,

David
