Just found that out. Cheers. Whats the 1300 like for performance. Im thinking cheaper to insure for now and change it later after sva. Im only 22.

Performance is pretty lively - plenty of fun on the road. You won't beat Ferraris, but you'll upset fast saloon drivers and there'll be plenty of fun to be had!

You may find insurance not too bad from the specialist insurers (Adrian Flux, etc), especially if you limit your annual mileage - it's the sub-21s who suffer the most. Ring and ask, if you haven't already.

When i was gonna use my v8 for it i tried them and it was an silly amount. With a 2 litre vaux engine its not to bad with them.

I will eventually put a zetec or summit in it. But lack of funds at the minute and the burning desire to get one built and on the road i think its a small engine for now..

hey up

im running a 1360cc (1300 with +60 overbore), kent BCF2 cam with 40`s. its still running in so only pottering along but its a liveley little sod, imagine it will shift when run in!!! well i hope!!

the problem with the 1300 v`s 1600 is that the 1600 is 1inch taller block so changeing from 1300 to 1600 may cause problems with the exhaust and carbs depending where thay exit the car may need body / exhaust mods.

as for the insurance, im with adrian flux, they said the if i go from 1300 to 1700 then the premium will not increase the only engine to cause an increase it a cosworth lump for obvious reasons!!!

hope this gives you some ideas

p.s. cheaper road tax for the 1300!!!

bob

The xflo is a kent engine but not all kent engines are xflos. The xflo was a kent version introduced early in the life of the MKII Cortina and ran through to the last 1300 MK5 Cortina.

Also the pushrod Valancia engine fitted to some fwd fords is not a xflo or a kent, it is closeley related but shares no common parts although some auxilaries like the water pump and distributer will fit.

Just for the record the kent engine family tree is.

3 bearing pre xflo was fitted to
Anglia 105e 997 cc
Anglia 1200 & Cortina 1200 (notorious for bearing problems)
Consol-Classic, Consol-Capri 1340 (again notorious for bearing problems)

5 bearing Pre xflo was fitted to
1500 MK1 & MK2 Cortina
1300 early Mk2 Cortina
1500 & 1558 Lotus Twincam was based on 1500 MK1&MK2 Cortina blocks.

5 Bearing Xlfo
all 1600 Mk2 Cortina
1300 MK2 Cortina (later models)
all 1300 Escort Mk1 &Mk2
all 997 Escort MK1 (Germany and some other parts of Europe only)
1100 Escort MK1 & 2
1600 Transit 75 (late 1970s models)
all 1300 Capris
early 1600 Capris
all 1300 Mk3-5 Cortinas
Escort Mk1 Mexico
some Escort Mk2 1600 Mk2 models

In addition the Cosworth FVA and BDA were based on the 1600 xflo block..

Not a very sophisticated lump but having them lightened and more importantly balanced makes a hell of a difference. A mate has just got shot of his MkII Escort grasser, which was fitted with a balanced 1300. DUe to the grasstrack class 2 rules he was limited to standard head & cam, tubular exhaust manifold and whatever carb he fancied breathing though a 32mm restrictor but it was wonderfully smooth & revvy. The only disadvantage I can see is, apart from being all iron they must be starting to get a bit scarce now?
