Zetec

Hope somebody can help with these questions i have!!

1. I am building a 2.0L Zetec at the moment and have bought a Escort water pump to fit on due to the fact that it runs in the opposite direction of the mondeo one, how do you set up the belts??

2. Should i replace the sump and oil pick up pipe for a Escort one as well as this will give more ground clearence i believe?

3. Finally, what is the best set up of throttle bodies and management?

1. I made a bracket and mounted the alternator under the carbs and replaced the water pump with an escort one. My belt short belt (870mm) runs round the three pulleys in a triangulated fashion. The belt is tensioned by a sierra alternator bracket bar to a bracket fabricated to fit the right most carb mounting studs. If this is a bit vague I'll take a photo.

2. YOU WILL NEED to have some sort of shortened sump. The escort one is about 1 inch shorter than the Mondeo one (I have a spare one and pickup pipe if you want them (U2U me to discuss price delivery etc). However a professionally shortened or fabricated sump (about 2 inches shorter than standard,WITH the oil capacity put back either on the side or rear of the sump) is much better but will cost you ££££, Dunnell, Schollar Engines and Raceline all sell these.

3. Throttle bodies - all down to choice, Weber Alpha do a nice set inc loom / sensors and ECU. But apparently you cannot remap the ecu yourself and the places that do it for you are few and far between. Others include DTA, MBE, Raceline and Dunnell. Or you could make your own setup links on this forum to the MEGAJolt and MEGA Squirt ecu stuff and some people have made their own throttle bodies or used motorbike ones.

As givemethebighammer says mount the alternator under the carbs, I was toying with using a cut down mondeo casting but ended up getting one from Spyder engineering. You will need a new pump pulley as well as you will now need to run on the grooved side of the belt, scrapyard or Ford can supply.

Emerald ECU/Jenvey TB work well. Emerald ECU very easy to set up as it comes with some basic maps to get you up and running. Jenvey seem to supply most other companies including Weber so you might as well buy direct from them. I used Vx SRi/GTE injectors which are cheap s/h and easy to source.
