X Flow stage 2 head

Hi there just a quicky please. I have been offered a stage 2 cylindar head for my 1300cc crossflow. Everything apppears to be there and working with the exception of the rocker. What is a reasonable price for such and item, and will it imporve my performance much running with a standard cam shaft. Any fitting advise gratefully excepted.

I'd check 3 things

1) What do they mean by Stage 2 (I'd guess gas flow / larger valves)?

2) What claims to they make?

3) Check they havn't just modded a lower spec head to bring it up to std 1600 spec.

Fitting will be straight forward as it's a direct swap however whilst doing it I'd get some new oil, oil filter, head gasket, possibly inlet manifold gasket and flush out the cooling system.

The rocker is just a series of about 4 bolts, however if you are going to re-use they will be adjusted for your old valves and not the new ones. Once fited you'll have to check the gaps and adjust if necessary. Again, with the old rocker off take the opertunity to clean it up before fitting to new head.


Cams. Some performance cam kits require head work to get the valve lift correct. I don't believe this is true on the GT cam. For an OEM you can get a Kent Cam (P103/4) which is designed to be a direct replacement.

One last thing. Price. depends a lot on if it's got new valves, seats, oil seals etc.

Personally I wouldn't go above £100 for such an item, and with one of the worlds largest autojumbles starting tomorrow, I'd wait until Monday.


Have you considered changing Carbs?

Cheers for the advise, I am going to try and fit at the weekend and see how it works. I was given it by a mate but he did not know too much about it apart from being stage two tuned. (bigger valves and ported I think.) At the moment I am running a twin downdraft webber, but I have been advised to try and get a hold of twin 40's so when the funds are present I think this will be the next step.

I got the had and I have started cleaning it up. However I have encountered a problem. When removing the valve I found that one of the exhaust valves was siezed. The valve guide came out with the valve and I managed to release them however the guide is badly damaged. Where can I get new valve guides, and how are the fitted correctly.
