Grrrrr!!!

Talk about one step forward and 2 steps back

I managed to get the engine running sweet enough to try and move the car under it's own power. So I popped in the clutch, engaged first and......

.....yipee she was moving under her own steam but then .....

.... the damn prop was catching on the tunnel , only just but enough to worry about it and especially as the gearbox/engine is going to move a little on the road.

So, I um'd and ar'd and then decided that I should be able to move the gearbox lower mount across by about 1/2". So I did, and it seems to be fine now, around 1/4" - 1/2" clearance at least.

Then what? Bu**er me if the damn 90deg adaptor for the speedo drive didn't pop out!! Obviously hadn't quite got the circlip in right (thought it took a while to fit it ). Job to do but it means taking off the footwell panel, I'll be duffed if I'm gonna take the engine/gearbox out again!

So I tried again with the driving backwards and forwards and it was fine, until the damn clutch ratchet let go....AGAIN!....yesterday I replaced the pawl that grips the ratchet teeth on the quadrant as the old one had stripped and was not gripping. So when I check it today expecting it to be the same it was fine, but just seems to not grip the quadrant wheel enough to disengage the clutch?? I stripped it down, checked it again, all seemed fine, it's a new spring so God knows why it's not gripping, anyone got any ideas?

Why do we bother?

I had the same problem with the quarant, ended up locking it with a bolt and fitting a standard adjustable cable. Cheers Ray

To make a car go faster, just add lightness. Colin Chapman - OR - fit a bigger engine. Chippy

Don't suppose you've got any pics Ray? Sounds like a plan to me.

Had similar probs with my speedo drive recently.
Overcame it by cutting out the relevant section of the footwell side panel and fitting an over-size plate when fixed using sealant and self-tappers - just in case I ever need to access it in the future!
HTH. Cheers, Pewe
