Crossflow 1600 into a Autounion Munga
Hello there,
im new to this site, and to the 1600 crossflow engine.. and hence im looking for some advice from some more experienced mechanics!
Ive just finished rebuilding the engine and ive got hold of a mk2, 4 speed gearbox which supposedly should fit on easily....
however there are gaps all the way around and i was wandering if there is suposed to be a plate that fits in the gap (and if i made one if it would
have any negative affects) .
Also, what is the best (and most reliable) Starter-flywheel-clutch set up to use in this situation?
Any advice would be greatly appreciated!!

Mk2 what?? Assuming its an old RWD Escort g/box, it should fit straight on to Xflow unit. Do you still have the old sandwich plate? This fits between
engine & g/box, providing some covering for the bell-housing, where it sits below the engine/sump.

I have an original Xflow inertia-type starter, if you're interested, and if you intend to retain the original flywheel.
U2U me if you want this.
Work-in-Progress: Changed to Zetec + T9. Still trying!!

thanks for that, ill get in touch!
To clarify it is an escort 4 speed box, and the old sandwich plate joined it to an autounion front wheel drive box, with an extra drive shaft coming
out of the back that connected it to the rear diff. it also had the old autounion clutch/fly wheel assembly which ive removed.

The most reliable starter for a Crossflow is without a doubt a preengaged starter but you need to know how many teeth there is on the flywheel
ringgear as the inertia uses 110 teeth and then pre engaged more IIRC
