Exhaust (Again)

Following on from my thread regarding connecting an R1 can to a 1.75" (45mm) downpipe, I think my best bet is to go with the eBay shop who make to order reducers (thanks Adrian ). The only decision is do I go for a clamp-on type or weld? I have never tried MIG welding stainless but it appears that as long as you use the correct wire/gas it's not difficult, but the thing is I have to go and buy a reel of stainless wire which will probably get used once every blue moon. The down side of a clamp-on type is that it looks a lot less neat.

What's the concensus of the collective?

Clamp is more flexible long term, I'll be using a clamp on mine but my reduction is so small i could almost get away with a normal clamp.

Out of interest have you a link to the ebay shop you are lookng to buy from?

It is bloody difficult to get a good, air tight finish. You have to weld ina series of spots, as SS distorts a lot during welding. Plus, you have to turn the power and wire speed right up on your welder to get a decent weld. Personally, I was faced with this dilemma last week - I opted to takit with my MIG, and then hand it to a pro to TIG it all together. Last time I fully welded a zorrst with my MIG, it took 3 weeks of welding and frinding, and I stillopted to have a TIG run over it to claen it up and make it air tight!

Ive Just fitted a carbon can on my Aries, gone from 2" to 2.5", I could have got it welded on, but when for clamps, looks good I think, also with the clamp on you can return it back to stock if required, I used these Mikalor clamps though for a better look.
