Mnr mx5

Evening all,
After a bit of advice, I have decided I want to build my next toy an mnr vortx, I have pretty much decided I want use the mx5 as a donor car but I will be doing the turbo conversion on it. My question is what engine is best for this the 1.6 or 1.8 and what sort of price can I expect to pay for a reasonable mileage complete donor car.
I will be aiming for about 180-200 bhp, what sort of engine work will I require prior to turbo fit and at roughly what cost for parts

Thanks Sam

Talk to Chris at MNR, he'll point ya.

How about sticking with a zetec and turboing that? 350bhp dead easy!

Thanks for replys,
To be honest cozzer I did look at Zetec but just quite like the idea of keeping the entire running gear from the mx5 and not having to mix and match etc. I have also seen somewhere that the mx5 engines are already pretty low compression engines so no need for pistons and thicker head gasket unless running silly boast.
I'm going stoneleigh Next weekend so will have to have a chat with chris

If you want to Turbo the MX5 it depends if you want to buy a kit or go your own way with sourcing parts.

The 1.6 parts tend to be more readily available 2nd hand but the 1.8 will give more power.

A whole car will easily cost you less than a grand but it might be a better idea to find a turbo car and use that.

I would be looking for a modded car with stand alone ecu (megasquirt etc). That way you can sell all the other parts, suspension, exhaust etc to make your money back. A sorted car can easily be had for the price of the turbo parts and ecu alone.

MX5 Nutz is a good source of info, parts and cars.

Hopping to get a pass out for sat night / Sunday but negotiatins with Mrs Agriv8 not progressing too well.

Any back on subject i think MNR's show cassis for the stand is a turbo'd MX5 it was looking that way when i tripped over it in the workshop a couple of weeks ago.

If your off to Stonleigh have a word with Road Runner too as their SR2 uses the MX5 as a single donor and they will be a mine of info regarding engine work and options for boosting it, I think they're also quite close with Mazda racing so have access to plenty of info.

If you're ever up north and fancy a spin, let me know. The turbo rush in such a light car is quite addictive! Also, if you have any specific questions regarding the build or setup, feel free to U2U.
