aldon dizzy help

I`m after some help I have a 103fxs aldon distributor for my crossflow and upto now was running fine but now has suddenly started running really poor and wont rev past 2000 rpm. The spark on the plugs is really poor. At first I thought it was the coil so tried my old coil but it was just the same. After alot of swearing I noticed the the carbon tip that goes onto the rotor arm from the cap apears to be broken ie not cylindrical at the end. If anyone has a cap the same could you check to see if yours is the same. Any help will be greatly appreciated.

Matt

it should look like this:

edit: if it doesn't then yours is probably broken (obviously this isn't the same dizzy cap as yours but the carbon brush should look just the same)

Get a new rotor arm as well while you are at it, quite often they will have a resistor in them to meet modern regulations (suppression) and you have to ask, 'what has caused this cap brush to fail?'.

Just my 2p's worth.
